Cal AI: Calorie Scanner ("we", "us", "our") operates the Cal AI: Calorie Scanner mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Data stored on your device: Your nutrition data, meal history, weight entries, calorie goals, and preferences are stored locally on your device. On iOS, this data may be synced privately via Apple's iCloud; on Android, you can optionally sync your nutrition and weight data to Android Health Connect. We do not have access to this data.

Health & fitness data: With your permission, the App integrates with Apple HealthKit (iOS) or Android Health Connect (Android) to read and write your nutrition, weight, and activity (active energy) data on your device. This data is used only to power the App's tracking features, stays on your device, and is never sold or used for advertising.

Photos: When you scan a meal, the photo is sent to our service for AI analysis. Photos are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored on our servers.

Voice input: When you log a meal by voice, your spoken description (as audio and/or its transcription) is sent to our service for AI analysis. It is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored on our servers.

Advertising & device identifiers (iOS only): On iOS, free users are shown ads through Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising identifier) and usage data to deliver and measure ads. On first launch you will be asked for tracking permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency, and you can decline. The Android version of the App contains no ads and does not use an advertising ID.

Subscription data: Subscription and one-time purchases are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on your device. We receive confirmation of your purchase status but do not have access to your payment information.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide intelligent nutrition analysis of your meal photos and voice descriptions
• To calculate personalized calorie and macro goals
• To improve our scanning accuracy and app performance
• On iOS, to display and measure ads for free users via Google AdMob

The Android version does not show ads. We do not sell your personal data.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• AI photo & voice processing: Meal photos and voice descriptions are processed through our secure API proxy and AI provider solely to generate your nutrition results. This data is not retained after processing.
• Google AdMob (iOS only): Displays ads to free users on iOS and may collect device identifiers and usage data for advertising. The Android app does not use AdMob. See Google's privacy policy for details.
• Apple HealthKit (iOS) / Android Health Connect (Android): With your permission, stores and reads your nutrition, weight, and activity data on your device. Used only for the App's tracking features; never sold or used for advertising.
• Apple iCloud (iOS only): Syncs your data across your Apple devices. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Data Retention

Your nutrition data is stored on your device (and, where you enable it, in your iCloud account on iOS or Android Health Connect on Android). We do not maintain copies of your personal health data on our servers. Meal photos and voice inputs are deleted from our processing pipeline immediately after analysis.

Your Rights

You can delete all your data at any time by deleting the app from your device. On iOS you can also remove the app's data from your iCloud account in Settings; on Android you can remove any data the app wrote to Health Connect. You may also request deletion of any data we have processed by contacting us at [email protected].

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
